A company called
Bonded Logic makes insulation out of old blue jeans. They shred it and put it back together. Dee Williams used it in her little house and she feels like it's working.
Another place makes "Green Fiber" insulation out of shredded paper.

Only issue is that both seem highly flammable. Is the product treated at all to counteract that effect?
I am crafting a reply to your letter and will (hopefully) send it shortly.
The denim insulation passes requirements for fires. It was categorized as Class 1. So is the GreenFiber and it claims to outperform fiberglass insulation in fires.
A 5.5" thick roll of the denim has an R value of 20. The GreenFiber has similar properties.
They are treated to give us the fire resistance, but not with chemicals like asbestos that are hazardous to our health.
Hi Rebecca,
Check out wool too. There are several companies that make wool insulation. We used wool insulation on the USFS Cabin, it was fun to work with.
